1. Tell your children you are going on a surprise trip, let them stew and guess for a few days.
2. Pick up Dad at work at lunch time, start driving. Some of your kids will think they are smart enough to figure out where you are going. Keep confusing them with weird clues and talk of what you might do.
3. Arrive at your hotel about 5:00pm. 'Yeah you guessed it kids, we are going to spend a few days in southern California'. 'We'll go to the beach, play in the park, swim in the hotel pool, doesn't that sound fun'. 'Would you like to go have dinner at downtown Disney?' (a free shopping district outside of Disneyland).
4. Walk through downtown Disney and start talking about how hot it is, wouldn't it be nice to ride splash mountain? Boy would Dad like to see that new Toy Story ride. "Well would anyone like to go inside Disneyland?"
5. At this point your younger kids are jumping and shouting, your older kids who realize the value of money and how frugal their parents are normally are looking at you like you are psycho...would their parents really do this?
YES! WE WOULD! and we would do it again and again just to see the looks on their faces
